A decade of learning, evolving, and living on top of a century of prestige.

I finally got a hold of a Php100 bill with the UP Centennial logo on it. It excited me like the time when I first got a hold of a Php200 bill. Also, that time with the Php10 coin. I am human. I am a shallow being.

This bill not only reminded me of being a part of the great legacy that is the University of the Philippines, it also reminded me that it’s been 10 years since I became part of it. On UP’s 100th year, I celebrate my 10th year of being a UPian (“Taga-UP” for those of you who think “UPian” is too “coño”).

I spent 7 years (don’t judge me!) in UPLB, and I’ll never regret a day of it. I love that little town at the foot of a mountain. For me, it wasn’t just about being in UP. It was about being in UP Los Baños. Sure, there’s a certain pride that comes with the name “UP”, but I always say I came from UPLB. There’s a difference, but that’s a discussion for another time.

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years already since I first got lost in UPLB’s arms, but I also can’t believe that it’s just been 10 years. It feels like I’ve just inhaled the fresh UPLB air for the first time a couple of years ago, and it also feels like I’ve been there all my life. It’s weird.

I can go on and on and on about UPLB, but I’ll hold off on the nostalgia for now. All I want to say is I’m extremely proud to have been a part of UP’s 100 glorious years. A decade of learning, evolving, and living on top of a century of prestige. That’s something you can’t trade for any number of Php100 bills.

Yeah, I got my first UP bill yesterday too. The lady handed it so casually. I was like holding it with both palms up, "OH MY GAAD!" Tsk.

@TheBitchGoddess: I almost used it to pay for a pack of cigs. When I saw I handed this awesome bill to the MiniStop cashier dude, I took it back and replaced it with another Php100 bill. He gave me a weird look.
